The "Qt" ROOT version for Unix, Windows and MacOS

The core "Qt layer" has become an optional component of the official ROOT 4.00.08.
To build it on UNIX platforms from the official ROOT distribution an extra --enable-qt configure flag should be applied.

Install (Windows XP/2000/NT/98) the "Qt" editions
The installation contains 2 low level graphical interfaces:
win32gdk( ROOT standard) and Qt (default for this distribution)

This version (one is advised to uninstall the previous ROOT 5.10 or less installation first):

compiled by VC++ 8.0;
based Qt 3.3.7;
includes the QGLviewer v.2.2.1 compatible with Qt4 3D engine;
includes qtcint.dll - the RootCint dictionary to use the main Qt classes from the ROOT command prompt
to use Qt classes one has to load the "qtcint" DLL with gSystem->Load("qtcint") command.
includes Coin3D 2.4.6 plug-in.

How to upgrade : If you want to upgrade your local ROOT version that had been installed from this Web site, you may choose not to uninstall the obsolete one. Instead you can:

select the new version

select "Repair" to replace your current installation with the brand new one.

Attention Windows user : If you want to upgrade your local "manual" ROOT version that had been installed from CERN Web site, you should make sure (i.e. remove "by hand") the ROOTSYS env variable is uninstalled and PATH variable doesn't contain the ROOT binary directory first.

UNIX and Windows: One can install the Qt-layer from the source source with any ROOT version 3.05.07 or later.
